The Heartbeat of SambaLa'
The SambaLá drum corps is the heartbeat of the samba school. Over 30 drummers comprise SambaLa's drum corps who practice and play all year round.
SambaLa' invites everyone to become part of their drum corps or "bateria" - no experience necessary. We teach authentic Rio-style samba, samba reggae, carnaval marches among other rhythms. Or course, you need to be around beautiful samba dancers but hey - we all have to make sacrifices for doing what we love!
Girls Welcome!
SambaLa' is an equal opportunity bateria with no discrimination against age, sex, or whatever else is politically incorrect to say. One case in point: Alison Frey. She not only plays one heck of a repinique player and helps direct the bateria, but she also is becoming a talented samba dancer.
Perform Around California & the World
Being a member of SambaLa's bateria means traveling around and doing shows - even outside the country! The SambaLa' bateria has played in such places as Seoul Korea, the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas, and in Rio's famous Sambadrome.
